Tattoo Removal

Decorative tattoos have been around for many years. The removal of these decorative tattoos has never been easier than it is today. Specific laser wavelengths must be used to break up the individual colors of ink in the tattoo. Once the ink has been broken up by the laser light, the body must carry off these tiny particles of ink through the lymphatic system.

Multiple treatments are required to remove ink and restore the skin to its natural skin tone. The key to successful tattoo removal is choosing a laser center that has laser wavelengths available to remove all of the colors in your tattoo. Laser Centers of Wisconsin has vast experience in removing both multicolored professional tattoos as well as amateur tattoos. Our center offers seven different wavelengths to treat red, blue, black, yellow, green, purple, orange and sky blue tattoos. Currently, our staff has treated more than 1000 tattoos.

Realistic expectations of laser tattoo removal will be discussed in a free consult at Laser Centers of Wisconsin and fees to accomplish this tattoo removal will be established up front. In our opinion, there is nothing more unattractive than a partially removed tattoo. We will advise waiting for new technology if we don't feel we can achieve your goals.

Lasers used: Medlite IV, Q- Switched Nd: YAG laser with Sky blue and yellow/orange attachment, VersaPulse C Laser with Alexandrite laser for green tattoos

Treatments: Tattoos may require 4-6 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart in amateur black or blue tattoo. If the tattoo is multi colored , 6-8 treatments may be required.

Post operative treatment: All lasers cause some superficial peeling with crusting. Typically an antibiotic ointment is applied twice daily until healing 7-10 days. Caution with sun exposure post operatively.

Side Effects: Temporary hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation (lightening or darkening of the skin), incomplete clearing, and infection slight chance of scarring if left untreated. Dark skin is more likely to have skin tone changes than lighter skin.

Fees for Treatment: Depending on size of tattoo, number of colors and intricacy between $100-800 per laser treatment (may be 6-8 treatments).

Realistic Expectations: A lightening or clearing of the tattoo area. May expect incomplete clearing based upon variability of inks. One must demonstrate patience with multiple treatments and side effects. Laser technology is not 100% effective due to the vast variability of unregulated ink production and tattooing industry.

CAUTION: SOME INKS (FLOURESCENT) CANNOT BE REMOVED BY LASER. THERE ARE NO LASERS TO REMOVE PURPLE, PINK, GOLD, SILVER, AND BRIGHT COLORS AND DARK TAR-BASED BLACK INKS. INKS WITH A METALLIC BASE MAY OXIDIZE AND TURN BLACK UPON LASER INTERACTION. ALWAYS TEST SPOT UNUSUAL COLORS FIRST.
